The small detail thatcleans up your entire workflow.
Neodymium magnets — stays on, even upside down
The ring uses neodymium magnets to grip the portafilter basket rim. Not just enough to sit there — strong enough to stay attached through tapping, distribution, and even holding it upside down. One of the failure points of cheaper dosing rings is weak magnets that shift or fall off mid-prep. These don't.
304 stainless steel — food-grade, no coatings, no compromise
Food-grade 304 stainless steel — the same specification used in professional kitchen equipment and surgical instruments. No paint. No anodising that chips off into your puck. No plastic. The material that touches your coffee is inert, non-reactive, and easy to clean. Rinse and dry, done.
No grounds on the counter — cleaner puck, cleaner bench
When you grind directly into a portafilter without a dosing ring, grounds scatter over the basket rim, the group head collar, and your counter. The dosing ring acts as a funnel — every ground goes into the basket where it belongs. Better distribution, less waste, and a bench that doesn't need wiping after every shot.
58mm — fits most commercial-grade home machines
The Gik Dosing Ring is available in 58mm — the industry standard for commercial-grade and prosumer home espresso machines. La Marzocco, ECM, Rocket, Profitec, Victoria Arduino, Lelit, Bezzera, and most E61 group machines all run 58mm portafilter baskets. Verify your basket diameter before ordering.
Three steps. Zero grounds on the counter.
The dosing ring takes two seconds to use and changes every shot you pull from here on.
01
Snap it on
Bring the dosing ring close to your portafilter basket rim — the neodymium magnets pull it into position automatically. No alignment required. The ring seats flush on the basket rim and stays there.
02
Grind straight through
Grind directly through the ring into your portafilter basket. The raised inner wall catches everything and directs it into the basket — no scatter, no lost grounds on the rim or counter. Distribute and tamp as normal with the ring still on.
03
Pull it off, pull your shot
One clean pull removes the ring before you lock the portafilter in. The puck surface is level and contained. Lock in, pull your shot. Rinse the ring, done. Total added time to your workflow: zero.
304 stainless. Neodymium magnets. ~43g.
The same material standard as professional barista tools. No paint, no plastic, no compromise.
Answered.
Do I really need a dosing ring?
If you pull espresso regularly — yes. Without one, every grind scatters grounds over the basket rim and counter. That's wasted coffee and a messy workflow. The dosing ring takes two seconds to attach and removes just as fast. The improvement to your puck consistency and bench cleanliness is immediate and permanent.
How do I know which size to order?
The Gik Dosing Ring is 58mm. Measure the inner diameter of your portafilter basket at the top rim — if it's 58mm, you're good. Most commercial-grade home machines use 58mm: La Marzocco, ECM, Rocket, Profitec, Victoria Arduino, and most E61 group machines. If your machine uses a 51mm or 53mm basket (Breville Barista series, DeLonghi), this ring won't fit.
Will the magnets scratch my portafilter?
No. The contact surface of the dosing ring is the smooth stainless steel edge, not the magnet itself. The magnets are recessed into the body of the ring and don't contact the portafilter basket surface directly. Normal use will not scratch a standard portafilter basket.
Can I use this with the Gik Onyx or Gik Fang hand grinder?
The dosing ring is designed for espresso portafilters — it sits on the basket rim while you grind into it. The Gik Onyx and Fang are hand grinders for filter brewing, not espresso machines, so they don't use a portafilter. This product is for customers who have an espresso machine and use the Gik grinder for other brew methods alongside it.
How do I clean it?
Rinse under water, wipe dry. 304 stainless steel doesn't rust or stain from normal coffee contact. For a deeper clean, soak in hot water for a few minutes and brush out any packed grounds with the cleaning brush. No detergent required — and no coatings to damage from cleaning agents.
