Watch the flat burr do its thing
Not all burrs grind the same
Thin flake geometry
Flat burrs slice beans into thin uniform discs. Packs evenly in the portafilter — water flows through the whole puck, not around it.
Titanium-coated 49mm SS420
High-hardness stainless steel with titanium coating. Sharper longer than ceramic. Zero metallic taste transfer, ever.
16-micron click adjustment
72 clicks per turn, 16 microns per click. External ring — no disassembly to dial in. Find your shot, return to it every time.
Tool-free quick disassembly
The entire burr housing unscrews by hand. Deep-clean in seconds, reassemble just as fast. Compact all-metal body goes from counter to bag without second thought.
Three brews.One grinder.
The flat burr's flake-cut particles control flow rate and extraction density — giving you command over espresso intensity, moka richness, and filter clarity from a single dial.
Where the flat burr earns its reputation. Tight, uniform flakes pack the basket evenly — water builds pressure across the entire puck. Pull a 25–30 second shot and taste the difference between controlled extraction and guesswork.
Moka needs a grind fine enough to build pressure but not so fine it chokes. The flat burr's uniform flakes hit that window precisely — you get a rich, full-bodied brew without the bitter over-extraction that blade grinders produce.
The flat burr produces a clean, sweet pour-over — lighter body than the ghost burr but exceptional at unlocking medium-to-dark roast sweetness. Especially strong for light-roast espresso-style filter brews where you want body alongside clarity.
Starting point, not a rule. Grind settings vary by bean, roast date, and humidity. Adjust finer if your brew tastes weak or sour, coarser if it tastes bitter or heavy.
Which grinder is right for your brew?
Gik Coffee Lab offers two hand grinder variants. Ghost Burr for pour-over clarity. Flat Burr for espresso intensity. The difference is what ends up in your cup.

Answered.
What is a flat burr and why does it matter?
Flat burrs slice beans into thin, uniform flakes. This produces a denser, more even coffee bed — essential for espresso because it eliminates channeling, the #1 cause of a sour or bitter shot. If you've ever pulled an inconsistent espresso, a flat burr is where the fix starts.
Flat burr vs ghost burr — which should I choose?
Flat burr if you pull espresso or use a moka pot. Ghost burr if you're primarily a V60 or Chemex drinker who wants bright, clean pour-overs. If you do both seriously, consider one of each — they're different tools for different outcomes.
Is this good for beginners?
Yes. The external grind ring means you never disassemble to change settings. Dial in your espresso once, return to it every morning. Even an imperfect technique with a flat burr produces a noticeably better cup than any blade grinder.
How do I clean it?
Tool-free disassembly — the burr housing unscrews by hand. Brush out the burr, rinse the catch cup. Full clean under 30 seconds. Deep clean every 2–4 weeks.
Can this grinder do pour-over?
Yes — at clicks 40–56 it produces a clean, sweet pour-over. It won't match the ghost burr's brightness on light roasts, but for medium roasts and darker filter brews it performs exceptionally. If you brew both espresso and filter daily, this grinder covers both.
