Every time you pour directly onto coffee grounds, the jet disturbs the bed. The Gik Ceramic Filter Press sits on the filter paper inside your dripper — water hits the ceramic surface first, spreads across the flutes, and reaches the grounds as an even sheet. No agitation. No channelling from the pour itself.

Ceramic construction — food-safe, heat-retaining, no flavour transfer

Works in any pour-over dripper — Origami, V60, cone drippers, flat bottom

Fan-flute water diffuser — breaks the pour stream into an even sheet before it hits the grounds

Why the Gik Flow Ceramic Filter Press

Stop agitating the bed.Start extracting it.

01

Fan-flute diffuser — breaks the pour stream, eliminates bed agitation

The press sits on top of the filter paper — not on the grounds. When you pour onto the ceramic surface, the 18+ fan flutes break the water stream and redirect it laterally before it passes through the paper. What reaches the grounds is a diffused, even sheet of water — not a directed jet. Direct pour impact is one of the primary causes of bed disturbance and channelling in pour-over. A gooseneck kettle reduces this, but doesn't eliminate it. The filter press does.

Eliminates bed agitation
02

Ceramic — heat-retaining, food-safe, counter-worthy

Ceramic's low thermal conductivity means the press doesn't aggressively absorb heat from the brew water passing through it — water temperature stays closer to your target as it passes the ceramic surface and reaches the grounds. The matte glaze is food-safe, non-reactive with coffee acids, and dishwasher safe. The mass of the ceramic disc also adds slight downward pressure on the filter paper, keeping it seated flush against the dripper walls during the pour — reducing the chance of the paper lifting and creating bypass channels.

Works in any dripper — not just Origami

The press rests on the filter paper inside the dripper — it doesn't attach, clip, or modify anything. Place it in any dripper where the diameter fits the opening: Origami, V60, cone drippers, flat-bottom designs. Remove it after the bloom or leave it in for the full brew — either way it's doing its job as a diffuser. One ceramic disc, every dripper in your setup.

04

Dark ceramic knob — lifts cleanly, stays cool

The dark ceramic ball knob gives you a grip point to place and remove the press cleanly — no touching the fluted diffuser surface, no disturbing the setup. Ceramic knob stays cool enough to handle immediately after a pour. Between brews, the knob-and-neck profile lets the press rest upright on the dripper rim without rolling or tipping.

How to use it

Four steps. No agitation.

The filter press adds one step to your pour-over workflow. The return is a more consistent bloom and fewer channelling problems in the main pour.

01

Set up your dripper

Place your dripper on the server. Insert a pre-wetted filter paper as usual. Add your coffee dose and level the bed. The press goes in after the grounds are levelled — not before.

02

Place the press on the bed

Lower the press by the knob onto the filter paper inside the dripper — it sits on the paper, not the grounds. The flat base rests on the filter surface. Position it centred in the dripper before pouring.

03

Pour the bloom water

Pour your bloom water (2× coffee weight) onto the fan surface. Water hits the ceramic, spreads across the flutes, and passes through the filter paper as an even sheet. CO₂ will bubble evenly across the full bed surface — not just the centre. This is what even saturation looks like. Wait 30–45 seconds.

04

Lift and continue

Lift the press out by the knob and set it aside — or leave it in for the main pour if your dripper has room. The evenly bloomed bed produces more consistent flow rates through the main pour. Drawdown should be uniform across the full bed, not funnel through a single channel.

Dripper compatibility

One press. Any dripper.

The Gik Ceramic Filter Press sits on the filter paper by gravity — it doesn't clip, lock, or attach to any specific dripper design. If the flat base fits inside the dripper opening, it works.

Cone · Fold-style

Origami Dripper

The press was originally designed for the Origami form factor — wide flat bottom, fan opening. Sits flush inside the Origami cone with room for the bloom to expand upward under the press.

Cone · V60-style

V60 · Cone Drippers

Works in any cone dripper with a wide enough opening for the press base to rest on the filter paper.

Flat · Wave-style

Flat Bottom Drippers

The flat base of the press works particularly well on flat-bottom drippers where even water distribution across the full bed surface is especially important for consistent extraction.

Common questions

Answered.

What does the filter press actually do?

It acts as a water diffuser — like a shower screen on an espresso machine, but for pour-over. The press sits on the filter paper inside the dripper. When you pour onto the ceramic surface, the fan flutes break up the water stream and redirect it as an even sheet through the paper. This eliminates direct pour impact on the coffee bed — the main cause of bed disturbance and channelling from the pour itself. Even a precise gooseneck pour still creates some agitation at the impact point. The press removes that variable entirely.

Does the paper need to be wet when I use it?

Yes — always press the filter paper while it is still wet from the pre-wet rinse. Wet paper is pliable and will conform to the dripper walls under the weight of the press. Dry paper is stiffer and won't seat as cleanly. Pre-wet the filter, discard the rinse water, then immediately use the press before the paper dries or cools.

Will it fit in my dripper?

The press needs to fit inside the dripper opening so the flat base can press the filter paper against the walls. It works in Origami, V60-style cones, and flat-bottom drippers

Can I use this with the Gik Crystal Dripper?

Yes — place the press on the pre-wetted filter paper inside the Crystal Dripper cone and press gently. The Crystal Dripper's concave ribs already help seat the filter flush, and the press reinforces that contact across the full surface. Confirm dimensions fit once available from the supplier.

When exactly do I use it and remove it?

Use it immediately after pre-wetting the filter paper — while the paper is still wet and pliable. Place the press onto the wet paper and press gently so the paper seats flush against the dripper walls and ribs. Remove the press. Then add your coffee dose and brew as normal. The press is never in the dripper during brewing — its job is done before the coffee goes in.
